MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
 
Education and Experience:
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by course work in laboratory sciences AND two (2) years full-time experience in a laboratory technician work. Possession of an Associate’s Degree with major course work in Chemistry, Biology or a closely related field may be substituted for the experience. 

Licenses and Certifications: 
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame. 

  • Must possess a valid Nevada Water Environmental Association (NWEA) Wastewater Quality Analyst Grade I Certificate or must obtain a Wastewater Quality Analyst in Training certificate within 12 months of the date of appointment. 

  • Must obtain a Grade II Wastewater Quality Analyst certification from the Nevada Water Environmental Association (NWEA) within three (3) year from the date of hire. 

Knowledge of:
  • Methods and techniques used in making standard laboratory analyses; standard laboratory equipment and its use and care; methods of preparing standard reagents and media; methods of cleaning glassware and equipment used in laboratory analysis; business arithmetic; record keeping principles and practices; safety principles, practices and equipment related to the work; basic data sampling and statistical analysis techniques. 

  • Standard physical, chemical and biological properties of water, wastewater, industrial wastes and related materials; statistical applications related to laboratory analysis; codes and regulations related to the work.

  • Computer applications related to the work. 
Skills: 
  • Performing basic laboratory tests, following established procedures; maintaining accurate records of work performed; understanding and following oral and written directions; working without close supervision in standard work situations; making accurate standard arithmetic and statistical calculations; performing standard physical, chemical and biological tests of water, wastewater and related materials; interpreting standard laboratory test results; using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines; contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
