Equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by course work in laboratory sciences AND two (2) years full-time experience in a laboratory technician work. Possession of an Associate’s Degree with major course work in Chemistry, Biology or a closely related field may be substituted for the experience.

Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.

Must possess a valid Nevada Water Environmental Association (NWEA) Wastewater Quality Analyst Grade I Certificate or must obtain a Wastewater Quality Analyst in Training certificate within 12 months of the date of appointment.

Must obtain a Grade II Wastewater Quality Analyst certification from the Nevada Water Environmental Association (NWEA) within three (3) year from the date of hire.

Methods and techniques used in making standard laboratory analyses; standard laboratory equipment and its use and care; methods of preparing standard reagents and media; methods of cleaning glassware and equipment used in laboratory analysis; business arithmetic; record keeping principles and practices; safety principles, practices and equipment related to the work; basic data sampling and statistical analysis techniques.

Standard physical, chemical and biological properties of water, wastewater, industrial wastes and related materials; statistical applications related to laboratory analysis; codes and regulations related to the work.

Computer applications related to the work.

Performing basic laboratory tests, following established procedures; maintaining accurate records of work performed; understanding and following oral and written directions; working without close supervision in standard work situations; making accurate standard arithmetic and statistical calculations; performing standard physical, chemical and biological tests of water, wastewater and related materials; interpreting standard laboratory test results; using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines; contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
