An Aquatics Maintenance Technician is an essential member of our team and we invite you to apply and help contribute to CNLV’S growing success! 

This posting will create a non-probationary internal Teamster eligibility list and fill 1 vacancy for this classification. The current vacancy is in the Parks & Recreation department. The eligibility list will be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification, for up to one hundred eighty (180) days. Non-probationary Teamster team members successfully completing the selection process will be placed on the eligibility list.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

  • Pay Considerations – The starting hourly pay for this position is $26.05. The selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
  • Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day (36 hour work week). The training schedule will be Monday through Thursday, from 5:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., for approximately 2 to 3 weeks. After training, the regular schedule will shift to Wednesday through Saturday, from 5:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Environment
    • The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold: No effective protection from weather.
    • The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
    • The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals, walking, and working on slippery and uneven surfaces.
    • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
    • The worker is required to wear a respirator and will be required to remove facial hair (subject to Safety approval).
    • The worker frequently is in close quarters, narrow aisles, passageways, and crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small, enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia.
    • May be required to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by department needs.
    • May be required to work overtime, stand-by, and call back during off hours to respond to emergencies.
    • May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing essential functions of position.

THE ROLE
Performs unskilled and semi-skilled work in the care and maintenance of municipal swimming pools and splash pads. Performs minor landscape maintenance and janitorial duties at park and recreation facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent; and
  • Two years of responsible experience performing commercial and/or municipal swimming pool maintenance.
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provides knowledge, skills, and abilities, required for the job and related to the essential functions of this position.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain an appropriate Nevada state driver’s license in the required time frame; maintaining a satisfactory motor vehicle record for the duration of employment.
  • Complete an OSHA-10 course in construction/general industry safety and health hazard recognition and prevention within 15 calendar days after hire. Completion card must be continuously maintained while employed in this classification.
  • Obtain Nevada State Commercial Driver’s License Class B within 1 year of hire or reclassification.
  • Must possess one of the following credentials at the time of application:
  • Swimming Pool Service Technician or Qualified Pool Operator through Southern Nevada Health District; or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate;
  • Or an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certificate form the National Swimming Pool Foundation, National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), or Independent Pool Service Association.

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
  2. The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process.
  3. Oral Board Interview (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%).  
  4. Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. **IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.
  5. Selection/Offers

Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.

The selection process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
