An Assistant City Surveyor is an essential member of our team and we invite you to apply and help contribute to CNLV’S growing success!

This posting will create a non-probationary internal Teamster eligibility list and fill 1 vacancy OR vacancies for this classification. The current vacancy is in the Public Works - Engineering & Construction Services department. The eligibility list will be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification, for up to one hundred eighty (180) days. Non-probationary Teamster team members successfully completing the selection process will be placed on the eligibility list.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

  • Pay Considerations –The starting salary for the position is $3,767.75 biweekly. Starting salary is dependent on education, qualifications, and the selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
  • Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day (36-hour work week), Monday through Thursday, 5:30am to 3:30pm.

THE ROLE
Under general direction, provides technical expertise and operational oversight of land surveying activities for municipal infrastructure projects. Oversees mapping, boundary analysis, and construction layout activities, ensuring precision and operational efficiency through effective survey staff supervision. Participates in long-term infrastructure planning efforts; maintaining established survey practices and providing technical direction to ensure the production of accurate and defensible data in support of public works and municipal development projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

  • Possession of a valid Nevada Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license at the time of hire; or
  • Certification as a Land Surveyor Intern (LSI) with the ability to obtain a Nevada PLS license within one (1) year of hire. In accordance with NRS 625.386, applicants must either hold a Bachelor’s degree or be in the final year of a Board approved land surveying or engineering curriculum of four (4) years or more at the time of application, and must have passed the fundamentals of land surveying examination outlined in NRS 625.280
  • Four (4) years of professional work experience in land surveying with two (2) of the years in a lead or supervisory role.

 Licenses and Certifications

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Nevada state driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • Must possess and maintain an OSHA 30-Hour card within 15 calendar days of hire.
  • Possession of a valid license as a Professional Water Rights Surveyor in the State of Nevada is preferred.
  • Previous Municipal surveying experience is preferred.
  • Incumbents in positions that require possession of valid licensing/certification as a condition of employment must obtain and maintain such credentials within the established time periods, and throughout the course of employment. Failure to obtain or maintain required licenses or certifications in good standing may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

SELECTION PROCESS

  2. The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include (dates to be determined).
  3. Oral Board Interview (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%):

  5. Pre-Employment Screening – For non-police positions only: Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. **IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete. 
  6. Selection/Offers

Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.

The selection process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
