ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

- Work Schedule – This position currently follows a Monday - Thursday, 10-hour shift schedule, promoting a work-life balance.
Training Program – Laterals will not have to complete an academy but are required to complete a field training program. Field training is broken down into four phases throughout 12 weeks. *Failure to successfully complete the eighteen (18) month probationary requirements will result in immediate termination. - Pay Consideration –The starting salary is dependent on the candidate’s education, qualifications, and experience. Higher starting pay may be recommended depending on years of service and with approval by the Chief. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
THE ROLE
This LATERAL MUNICIPAL COURT MARSHAL position is designed for officers that are CURRENTLY employed with another agency AND have a Category I or II Nevada POST Certification, and are currently employees as a Peace Officer in Nevada.
A copy of the applicant’s current and valid Peace Officer Certification MUST be scanned and attached to the online application.
Under direct supervision of the chain of command, this position is responsible for performing professional law enforcement duties, ensuring the safety of the Municipal Court, enforcing court orders, and protecting City facilities and personnel.
THE ROLE
The City Marshal, under supervision, is responsible for the performance of a variety of duties in the enforcement of state statutes, city ordinances and other City regulations; maintain custody and control of prisoners being transported or detained while in lawful custody and serving warrants as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Must have a high school diploma or GED at time of filing
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
Other Conditions of Employment
- Minimum of two (2) years of continuous service with a law enforcement agency in the performance of duties directly related to the applicable category I or II peace officer standards at time of application.
- Must possess a valid Category I or II (Peace Officer) Nevada POST Certificate. A copy MUST be attached to the online application.
- Character above reproach pursuant to NRS 289.555 and NAC 289.110.
- No person will be eligible for employment as a Marshal who has been convicted of any crime for which the applicant is required to register and/or misdemeanor crime of domestic violence including use/attempted use of physical force.
- All personnel must reside in the greater Las Vegas Metropolitan area, unless authorized by the Chief Marshal.
- Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver’s license at time of hire with a satisfactory driving record.
LICENSES
- Must possess a valid and current Nevada state driver’s license at time of application and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record for the duration of employment.

- PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING –BACKGROUND SCREENING/INVESTIGATION Includes an extensive background check, polygraph/CVSA examination, medical/drug screen exam, and a psychological evaluation. All candidates must pass the Background Investigation in order to move forward in the process. Among other items, the following are disqualifying behaviors:
- Any felony conviction.
- Any domestic violence conviction.
- Gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
- Although there have been recent changes to laws regarding the legal possession and consumption of marijuana, the City of North Las Vegas will continue to adhere to its professional standards and guidelines as it relates to recent and continuous use of the drug.

The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical and professional standards.
