MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree with major course work in criminal justice, social services, counseling, behavioral science or a related field; and,
  • One or more years of related experience in criminal justice system involving inmate counseling, social services or;
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience which produces the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job and related to the essential functions of the position.
 

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.
 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Applies modern evaluation and assessment methods to inmate classification.
  • Effective in oral and written communication.
  • Interpersonal communication with individuals from various socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Collect, analyze and report inmate data.
  • Identify, evaluate and assess inmate problem areas and treatment needs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff members, referral agencies and courts.
  • While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms and is occasionally required to drive a motor vehicle.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to offensive language, offensive actions, offensive smells, inmates and inmate property; occasional exposure to sick inmates and typical jail hygiene problems; potential hostile environments typical to a correctional center.
  • Working conditions are typically moderately quiet but are occasionally loud.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required.
