ESSENTIAL INFORMATION 

THE ROLE

The Communications Intern will support the communications department with writing press releases, working on newsletters, photography and video editing. In addition, the Intern will assist the department with daily office tasks which includes but is not limited to the following: research, data entry, department coordination, etc.

Pay Considerations 
The hourly pay for this position is: $15 - $19 (based on education level).

Work Schedule
This position is scheduled to work up to 20 hours weekly between Monday and Thursday, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. 

Part-Time/Temporary Position

  • This position is a part time/temporary position and does not include health or medical benefits.
  • Hours for this position will not exceed 935 per calendar year (see weekly hours for this position under work schedule).

Environment 

  • Works in a normal office environment where there is little or no physical discomfort associated with changes in weather or discomfort associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
  • Employee may be required to work an alternative or flexible schedule, outside of normal business hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 15 pounds, and may be required to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and /or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • May occasionally work outside in all types of weather.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate would possess strong communication skills; demonstrate proficiency in AP Stylebook, background in Journalism; and exhibit general computer skills related to desktop productivity applications, graphic design software, etc. 

The ideal candidate would also be a self-starter and detailed-oriented as well as possess exemplary phone and email etiquette, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities. 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Current enrollment in any of the following degree programs: Communications, Graphic Design, or Journalism 
  • Current enrollment with a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester (undergraduate level) or 3 credit hours per semester (graduate level)
  • Recent Graduate (2022-Current)
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • A valid Nevada driver’s license
  • Legal right to work in the U.S.
