MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • Four (4) years of professional work experience in two-way radio technology industry within the last six (6) years, and must have completed one of the following methods of formal training in electronics: Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Electronics, or a closely related field; or Electronics certification from an accredited technical school; or Radio communications or electronics training through the U.S. Military and has completed three (3) years of active-duty service in an electronics focused role.

  • Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training in radio communications may be considered for formal training. The City assesses one (1) year of full-time work experience as equivalent to one (1) year of education.

  • Motorola XTS/XTL, APX series radios, and Motorola MCC 7500 console systems experience is preferred.

  • Microwave experience is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Class “A” or “B” Nevada Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsements within twelve (12) months of hire and must maintain for duration of employment in this classification. The CDL license must not have any restrictions that would prohibit the operator from interstate operations.

  • Must possess a valid Amateur Radio License, Technician Class or higher within twelve (12) months of date of hire and maintain for duration of employment in this classification.

  • FCC General Radio Telephone Operators License is preferred.

  • Certified Electronics Technician certification from International Society of Certified Electronics Technician (ISCET) or Electronics Technician Association (ETA) is preferred.

  •  Current CCW permit is preferred.

  •  Incumbents in positions that require possession of valid licensing/certification as a condition of employment must obtain and maintain such credentials within the established time periods, and throughout the course of employment. Failure to obtain or maintain required licenses or certifications in good standing may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. Complete Online Application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.

  2. The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include (dates to be determined).

  3. Oral Board Interview - (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%. Date To be Determined)

  4. Pre-Employment Screening –Background Screening/Investigation Includes an extensive background check, polygraph/CVSA examination, medical/drug screen exam. All top scoring candidates must pass the Background Investigation in order to move forward in the process. Applicants who proceed in the selection process will be required to complete an extensive police background. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 3 to 4 months to complete.  Among other items, the following are disqualifying behaviors:

    •   Any felony conviction.

    • Any domestic violence conviction.

    • Gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

    • Although there have been recent changes to laws regarding the legal possession and consumption of marijuana, the City of North Las Vegas will continue to adhere to its professional standards and guidelines as it relates to recent and continuous use of the drug.

  5. Selection/Offers – Will be made at completion of background.

The selection process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
