Key Focus of the Role:
(Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following)
- Assist in Contract Administration and inspects Engineered Works, monitoring and/or commenting on schedules, submittals, payments, budgets, and quality of work provided by City or private service providers, participating and/or conducting progress meetings, warranty walk through, reviewing contract documents and specifications at various levels of design, coordinating survey requests and inspecting/monitoring general contractor and consultant-managed projects.
- Enforces the current Federal, State, and Local uniform construction standards, plans, and specifications, contract documents and best construction practices.
- Makes recommendations to approve construction progress payments and change orders.
- Inspects and enforces ADA flat-work, SWPPP and Dust Control regulations.
- Works with City departments, private contractors, engineers, utility companies, architects and staff to resolve, design, and construction issues or utility conflicts.
- Assists in scheduling and facilitating construction progress meetings and interface with design staff and consultants regarding contract documents and specifications, cost estimates and contractor cost proposals.
- Mentors, advises, and trains new inspectors by sharing on-the-job knowledge and demonstrating techniques in equipment operation, material sampling, report writing and Capital Improvement and Construction Project coordination and administration.
- Documents project information including tracking of time and materials quantities, lump sum percentage complete, site activities, scheduling, trades workers and equipment by maintaining daily reports, logs, computer tracking systems and photo/video documentation of projects.
Qualifications and Attributes:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Four (4) years of construction related college education and two (2) years of construction experience; OR two (2) years of construction related college education and four (4) years of construction experience; OR seven (7) years of construction experience that include four (4) years of in-responsible-charge work assignments; OR any combination of Education, Training and Experience which provides Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position and related to the essential functions of the position.
Equivalency: May substitute a combination of equivalent education and experience. The city assesses 1 year of fulltime experience as equivalent to one year of education.
Must possess required certifications within first year of hire date in this Class Title. Must maintain or renew certification within 90 days after expiration during employment in this Class Title.
- Must possess and maintain American Concrete Institute Field Testing Technician Grade 1 Certification.
- Must possess and maintain Nuclear Gauges Safety and Operation Certification.
- Must possess and maintain HAZMAT Training for Portable Nuclear Gauges Certification.
- Must possess and maintain International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) and/or American Traffic Signal System Association (ATSSA) Work Zone Safety or comparable certification.
- Must possess and maintain a State of Nevada Water Distribution Operator Certification Grade D1.
- Must possess and maintain a Registered Construction Inspector Division 1 Engineering (ACIA).
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain and appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within the required time frame.
