Qualifications and Attributes:
Education and Experience:
Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, criminal justice, education, counseling and/or similar course of study; and
Three (3) years of full-time experience in a correctional, parole and probation, or comparable setting conducting casework services.
Equivalency: May substitute a combination of equivalent education and experience. The city assesses 1 year of full time experience as equivalent to one year of education.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain an appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Principles and practices of record keeping, report preparation, correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
• Department rules, regulations, policies and procedures
• Basic research skills, techniques, and procedures
• Computer systems used in Correctional agencies, including but not limited to City, County, and State, Windows, Google, and related equipment
• Honesty, integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to maintain accurate records and logs
• Ability to effectively and compassionately assist people in stressful, emotional or emergency situations, including clients who are uncooperative
• Ability to react quickly and calmly in unknown or potentially precarious situations
• Ability to work independently
• High level of initiative
• Ability to lead and be part of the team
• Must maintain the highest ethical and professional standard with clients and employees
• Must avoid all dual relationships with clients (personal, financial, business, social, sexual relationship or other activity outside the context of the traditional therapist-patient relationship)
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is on occasion exposed to loud noise, dirt, offensive language, offensive actions, offensive smells, bodily fluids, arrestees, inmates and inmate property; occasional exposure to sick inmates and typical jail hygiene issues, and potential hostile environments typical to a Correctional Center.
• Working conditions are typically moderately quiet, but can be loud in certain sections of the Correctional Center.
• While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee will also work in a typical office environment, use standard office equipment, read printed material and a computer terminal/screen, communicate in person and over the telephone, and is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, climb or balance, talk and hear, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Regular and timely attendance is required.
BACKGROUND LEVEL:
This position requires a background check with the North Las Vegas Police Department. Background check includes but is not limited to: Local and State Criminal History Check; Federal Criminal History Check and will automatically include a VSA due to the type of access to confidential Information the position will have.
Selection Process:
Oral Interview: 100%. Passing Score is 70%.
