ABOUT THE POSITION
The City is filling one (1) vacancy for this position. Deputy City Attorney II –Civil performs complex legal duties and services for City boards, commissions, departments and the City Council.  The Deputy City Attorney II - Civil position is for an attorney who can independently and proficiently complete legal assignments.  The position requires the application of seasoned judgment and technical proficiency.

The Ideal Candidate 
The ideal candidate is an experienced attorney with a background in municipal, civil, or administrative law, capable of independently managing complex legal matters with sound judgment. They are a confident advisor with transactional, real estate/land use, and/or litigation skills who can effectively represent the City on various matters and provide clear, practical guidance to City leadership and departments. This individual demonstrates strong legal research and writing skills, along with the ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion and integrity. A clear communicator and collaborative team player, they can translate complex legal concepts for diverse audiences. The ideal candidate is organized, able to manage competing priorities, and committed to delivering high-quality, timely work while upholding the highest ethical standards.

  • Work Schedule - The schedule consists of Monday- Thursday 8am – 6pm
  • Pay considerations – The salary range for this position is $98,626.81 - $160,386.20. Salary offers will be made depending on qualifications and experience.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: 

  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school.
  • Three (3) years of progressively more responsible professional experience as a Deputy City Attorney I - Civil for the City of North Las Vegas or similar municipality or five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience as a practicing attorney in the assigned specialty area.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Nevada at time of application and be in good standing with all state bars to which he/she is licensed to practice law.
  • Must possess a valid Nevada driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver's license within required timeframe.
  • Must possess admission (or be willing to apply for admission) to practice law before the Federal District Court of Nevada and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

     

SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume. The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include:

  1. Prescreen
  2. Oral board interview 
  3. Selection Interview
  4. Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. **IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.
    This process may be modified to include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.  The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
    Appointment may be subject to the successful and timely completion of a post offer pre-employment background investigation and medical/physical examination, including a drug/alcohol test.
