 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

 

Education and Experience:

Extensive professional knowledge of the principles, practices of engineering, construction, maintenance, and public works administration and operations. Including:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Public or Business Administration, or closely  related field
  • Ten (10) years of relevant public works management or supervisory-level experience involving public works.  Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered.
  • Preferred:  Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and/or Public Administration

 

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Nevada driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • Preferred:  Any certifications applicable to Public Works disciplines.
  • Preferred:  Valid registration as a professional civil engineer with the State of Nevada or the ability to obtain through reciprocity within one (1) year of employment.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume. The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process may include (dates to be determined):

  • Phone/Virtual Screen (By invitation only - Most qualified candidates only)
  • Oral Board with Presentation (Top candidates from phone screen only)
  • Selection Interview (Top candidates from oral board)

This process may be modified to include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.  The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.

Appointment may be subject to the successful and timely completion of a post offer pre-employment background investigation and medical/physical examination, including a drug/alcohol test.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary

The salary range for the position is $107,383.11-175,809.17. Starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience the candidate brings to the role. 

Work Week

Employees enjoy a four day work week, 9 hour work day, and 36 hour work week, Monday through Thursday.

Holiday

  • 13 paid holidays per year

Floating Holiday

  • 9 hours on the employee’s birthday

Emergency Leave

  • 27 hours first year, 9 hours annually with max 135 hours

Annual Leave (Vacation/PTO) 

  • 36 hours/1 week available upon hire
  • 3 weeks per year - Years 1-5
  • 4 weeks per year - Years 6-11
  • 5 weeks per year - Years 11-15 
  • 5 ½ weeks per year - Years 16+

Sick Leave

  • 3 weeks per year

Retirement

  • Pension Plan - Employer-paid contributions into the Public Employees’ Retirement System of NVPERS
  • Contribution Rate is 29.75% - Fully vested after 5 years with NVPERS
  • No Social Security tax on wages

    • Employer Match Deferred Compensation Plan up to 3% of the employee’s base salary, will be matched 100% and will be immediately vested.
