A Engineering Associate is an essential member of our team and we invite you to apply and help contribute to CNLV’S growing success! 

This posting will create a non-probationary internal Teamster eligibility list and fill 1 vacancy for this classification. The current vacancy is in the Public Works department. The eligibility list will be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification, for up to one hundred eighty (180) days. Non-probationary Teamster team members successfully completing the selection process will be placed on the eligibility list.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

  • Pay Considerations –  The salary range for the position is $78,928.75 - $118,396.24. Starting salary is dependent on education, qualifications, and experience. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
  • Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day (36 hour work week), Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:00pm.
  • Environment – The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside. The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals, walking, and working on slippery and uneven surfaces.

THE ROLE

Plans, coordinates and performs engineering work, including reviewing various land development submittals, conducting engineering feasibility studies, performing design work for construction projects and environmental/conservation programs; performs professional level engineering planning, and
design for a variety of projects.

IDEAL CANDIDATE 

The Engineering Associate in Development and Flood Control must be experienced with reviewing Technical Drainage Studies, Grading Plans and Storm Drain Infrastructure Plans for private and public development projects. The position will work under the direction of a Senior Engineer, but will also be
required to work independently on multiple plan or study reviews simultaneously. Familiarity with HEC-1, SF4, SF6, WSPG, HEC-RAS, Flowmaster, Hydraulic Toolbox and similar computer programs related to hydrological and hydraulic analysis is required. Communicate effectively with others outside own work area and maintain cooperative working relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of progressively complex and responsible related work experience with knowledge and familiarity in the theories and principals for application to practical problems and solutions.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must possess a valid Nevada state driver’s license, or have the ability to obtain, and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • Possession of State of Nevada Registered Engineer Certificate. If licensed in another state, registration in the state of Nevada within one (1) year of hire/reclassification
  • Prefer Professional Traffic Operations Engineer certification (Traffic Option Only)

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
  2. The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include (dates to be determined).
  3. Oral Board Interview (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%)
  4. Pre-Employment Screening – For non-police positions only: Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. **IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.
  5. Selection/Offers

 

Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
