MINIMMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience 

  • High School Diploma or GED and;
  • Minimum three (3) years of full-time general construction and maintenance work, including two (2) years operating a variety of construction vehicles and equipment. 

Licenses and Certifications 

  • A valid Nevada state Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with a satisfactory motor vehicle record; is required for this position; if candidate does not possess at time of application, they must obtain the Class “B” CDL within six (6) months (Transfer/Promoted) or twelve (12) months (New Hire) from date of hire/ transfer/reclassification or promotion. May require special endorsements; e.g., air brakes, tanker, and/or hazardous materials. Failure to meet the requirement may result in non- confirmation of position.
  • Must obtain a completion card for an OSHA 10 Hour Construction within fifteen (15) days of the date of hire.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid IMSA or ATSSA Work Zone Safety Certification within one (1) year of hire or promotion.
  • Clark County Air Quality Dust Control within twelve (12) months of date of hire.
  • Nevada Department of Transportation Flagger Certification within twelve (12) months of hire.

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
  2. Practical Exam -  (Weight 70% Passing Score 70% to move into Oral interview)
  3. Oral Board -  (Weight 30%, Passing Score 70%)
  4. Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history check via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. Although there have been recent changes to laws regarding the legal possession and consumption of marijuana, the City of North Las Vegas will continue to adhere to its professional standards and guidelines as it relates to recent and continuous use of the drug.
  5. Selection/Offers.

 

Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
