Qualifications and Attributes:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED, and
Two years of experience in the operation of street sweeping equipment.
Equivalency: Two years of experience in roadway infrastructure maintenance with a public entity may be substituted for the required experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of a Class "B" commercial driver's license and may require special endorsements; e.g., air brakes, tanker, hazardous materials at time of hire.
OSHA 10 within one year of hire;
ATSSA work Zone Safety Certification and /or IMSA,
Clark County Air Quality Dust Control within twelve (12) months of appointment to position.
Nevada Department of Transportation Flagger Certification within 12 (twelve) months of appointment to position.
Failure to obtain and maintain this certification will result in non-confirmation of appointment.
Skill:
Capabilities, operational characteristics, adjustment and preventive maintenance of street sweeping equipment. ie. adjusting broom patterns, replacing water filters, replacing gutter brooms, etc.
Use and maintenance of basic hand and power tools related to the work.
Traffic laws and ordinances applicable to equipment operation.
Safety principles, practices and equipment related to the work.
Basic record keeping practices and to work with computers.
Operating mechanical and vacuum street sweeping equipment safely, particularly in traffic and tight clearances.
Adjusting and performing preventive maintenance on the vehicle and auxiliary equipment as outlined in the operators manual for the equipment being operated.
Planning and routing the assigned area for the most efficient sweeping.
Safely using and maintaining hand and power tools related to the work.
Reading and understanding street maps.
Maintaining accurate records of work performed
Physical and Mental Abilities:
Understand basic oral and written instructions and diagrams.
Working independently without close supervision.
Follow maps and directions.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and may occasionally be required to lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
Working Conditions:
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, and working near moving mechanical parts.
Must be able to work any shift or days of the week.
Subject to 24-hour emergency call out.
Working conditions are typically loud while operating equipment.
Work with exposure to heavy traffic.
Regular and timely attendance is required.
