MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
 
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. College level course work in fire science, fire administration or a related field is desirable. 

  • Any combination of education, training and experience that produces the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job and related to the essential functions of the position.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Graduation from high school, or the equivalent. 
  • Possess and maintain a valid Nevada driver's license or comparable license of state of residence. 

Knowledge:
  • Basic mathematical principles. 
  • Knowledge of the City of North Las Vegas Fire Department organizational structure, mission, policies, and procedures; safe work practices and procedures; and safe driving techniques. 

  • Any training and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform satisfactorily on the job. 

  • Desirable: Enrollment in an accredited fire science program, fire science related classes, or fire service explorer program. 

Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; and work independently and use initiative within established guidelines. 

  • Learn to understand and act in accordance with departmental and City policies and rules. 

  • Read street maps and navigate streets. 
  • Learn and follow all applicable safety procedures. 
  • Retain presence of mind in emergency situations. 
  • Observe the details of a situation and act accordingly. 
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions promptly and accurately. 

  • Communicate clearly, concisely and effectively, both orally and in writing. 

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. 

  • Learn and use computers and tablets, along with related computer programs and software applications.
