MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED certificate; and
- One (1) year of work experience in one or more of the following fields: Plans review (Examination); Structural inspection; Life safety systems design, installation or inspection; Architecture; Engineering;
- Or, one (1) year of work experience that required the frequent interpretation, explanation or enforcement of codes, regulations or formal written standard operating procedures, to include frequent heavy public contact in an enforcement capacity;
- Or, successful completion of 30 semester credit hours of fire science core courses;
- Or, two (2) years as a full-time uniformed employee of a public or private fire department;
- Or, five (5) years as a documented part-time or volunteer uniformed member of a fire department.
Licenses and Certifications
- Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license on the date of application and maintenance thereafter.
- Possession of current certification from the International Code Council as Fire Inspector I at time of application.
- International Code Council Fire Inspector II will be required within nine (9) months of hire and maintenance thereafter for the duration of employment.
- Nevada State Fire Marshal Hazardous Materials Awareness Certification is required within twelve (12) months of date of hire and maintained thereafter.
SELECTION PROCESS
- Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
- The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include (dates to be determined).
- Oral Board Interview (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%): Dates To be Determined
- Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history check via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. **IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.
