ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

- Pay Considerations –The starting hourly pay for this position is $36.33. The selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
- Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day (36 hour work week), Monday - Thursday 5:30am – 3:00pm.
- Environment – Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to lift a minimum of 75* pounds unassisted. The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside. The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals, walking, and working on slippery and uneven surfaces.
THE ROLE
Under general supervision, performs diagnostics and procedures in the maintenance and repair of public safety vehicles including ambulances, squad, rescue, structural engines and ladder apparatus trucks using own tools. Candidates must have own tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Five (5) years of full-time experience in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and/or heavy fire-fighting equipment.
- Graduation from an accredited college, trade school or manufacturer in the repair of automobiles, trucks or heavy equipment may be substituted for two years of work experience.
- Equivalency: May substitute a combination of equivalent education and experience. The city assesses 1 year of fulltime experience as equivalent to one year of education.
Licenses and Certifications
- A valid Nevada state Class “A” Commercial Driver’s license is required or must be obtained within twelve (12) months from date of hire/transfer/reclassification or promotion, and may require special endorsements; e.g., air brakes, tanker, and/or hazardous materials; and a satisfactory motor vehicle record must be maintained.
- ASE Master Certifications in Automotive and Medium/Heavy Duty Truck, Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) or EVT Master Certification is preferred.
- Nevada Emissions Inspector License, 1G or 2G, within six (6) months of date of hire, transfer, promotion or reclassification date.
- Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) section 609 certification within six (6) months of date of hire, transfer, promotion or reclassification date.
- Must possess or obtain a minimum of four (4) automotive and six (6) truck classifications from the ASE Certification Test Series approved by the supervisor within eighteen (18) months of hire, transfer, promotion or reclassification date.
- Minimum of F2 and add F3 EVT must be obtained/maintained within eighteen (18) months of hire, transfer, promotion or reclassification date.
- Failure to obtain and maintain licenses and required certification(s) will result in termination of appointment
SELECTION PROCESS
- Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
- The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process.
- Oral Board Interview (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%)
- Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening.
- Selection/Offers-
Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
