MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
 
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, business, urban studies, government administration, or a closely related field, and a minimum of two (2) years of recent professional work experience providing government relations or internal/external affairs professional services.

Equivalency: 

A combination of formal education and directly related work experience may substitute for the degree.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • As necessary, must travel by air and/or ground transportation to attend meetings locally, in Carson City, Washington, D.C., and other locations as necessary. 

  • Must reside in Carson City during the time the Legislature is in session.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Lobbying experience and established relationships with elected representatives, government officials and the lobbying community.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required timeframe.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Principles and practices of government operations and public administration. 

  • Interrelationship of local, state and federal governments and their operations. 

  • The role, function and responsibilities of City Council members and other elected leaders. 

  • Techniques for handling highly confidential and sensitive information. 

  • Records management requirements, regulations and systems. 
  • Databases, data tracking and analysis. 
  • Office software and equipment, including Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 

  • Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with community partners, members of the public, coworkers, management and staff in other departments. 

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including preparing and delivering effective presentations. 

  • Ability to organize and manage own work, set priorities and goals, and meet critical deadlines. 

  • Identify, analyze and apply pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations. 

  • Analyze programs, policies and operational needs. 
  • Operate a variety of computers, peripheral equipment, and system applications. 

  • Work in a highly political and confidential environment. 
  • Make independent decisions and act with limited or general supervision while complying with all laws, City policies and procedures. 

  • Successfully perform multiple tasks simultaneously. 
  • Prepare materials, manuals, and correspondence using proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. Accurately complete and submit reports, budgets, program sheets and other materials. 

  • Understand and execute written and verbal instructions. 
  • Work under pressure, exercise good judgment and make sound decisions in routine and emergency situations. 

  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 15 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. 

  • Non-Sedentary work: Can involve a significant amount of travel or movement which can take place either indoors or outdoors. The employee may have to attend off-site meetings and events. 

  • Visual Acuity: The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as; preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
