ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following)


•    Performs full range of irrigation system maintenance, repair, and installation on a wide variety of irrigation systems throughout the City of North Las Vegas landscaped locations.
•    Estimates materials, parts, tools, and equipment needed for work assignments.
•    Orders and picks up materials and supplies form vendors. Prepares cost estimate for projects.
•    Trains and advises park maintenance staff on the repair of irrigation systems.
•    Trains and advises park maintenance staff on the operation and characteristics of the computerized water irrigation management systems.
•    Troubleshoots and tests irrigation system components and systems.
•    Read diagrams, plans, and specifications for installation, and repair of irrigation systems.
•    Analyzes water bills for possible billing errors regarding water usage and assists with forecasting irrigation usage for budgeting purposes.
•    Assists in review and update of department standards and specifications for irrigation equipment; maintains inventory records.
•    Understands and performs irrigation audits; determines optimum watering run-times and coverage.
•    Picks up trash and debris, cleans restrooms, showers, and locker rooms; empties trash cans.
•    Assists with general park maintenance and janitorial duties at parks and other city facilities.
•    Inspects assigned areas for safety hazards; reports any safety issues to supervisor and/or makes necessary corrections.
•    Observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment. Secures work sites from safety hazards as necessary.
•    Responds to questions and complainants from the public in a courteous manner.
•    Maintains records of work performed; makes detailed reports of issues and submits reports to supervisor.
•    Instructs and directs the work of par-time and/or less experienced staff
•    Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education and Experience:


•    High School Diploma or equivalent and;
•    Two (2) years responsible experience performing landscape maintenance, including irrigation system repair, maintenance, and installation.
•    Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provides knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the job and related to the essential functions of the position.

 

Licenses and Certifications:


•    Must possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain an appropriate Nevada state driver’s license in the required time frame; maintaining a satisfactory motor vehicle record for the duration of employment.
•    Complete an OSHA-10 course in construction/general industry safety and health hazard recognition and prevention within 15 calendar days after hire. Completion card must be continuously maintained while employed in the classification. 
•    Must obtain Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor (CLIA) within two (2) years of hire or reclassification.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


•    Equipment and tools used in area of work assigned.
•    Knowledge of current Water Conservation issues affecting Southern Nevada.
•    Knowledge of evapotranspiration and how this affects irrigation run times.
•    Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
•    Operating a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner.
•    Performs physical manual labor
•    Understanding and following oral and written instructions.
•    Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
•    Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contracted in the course of work.
•    Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
•    Constantly standing, in combination with walking, indoors and outdoors, while performing general maintenance duties. 
•    Frequently lifting and carrying between 5 and 50 lbs. tools, trash, equipment, vegetation, and debris. 
•    Frequently bending/twisting at waist, knees, and neck while working in a variety of positions performing maintenance and manual labor duties. May be required to do extensive shoveling, raking, hoeing, and weeding.
•    Frequent kneeling/crouching/crawling, while performing manual labor, repair and maintenance duties at street or ground level.
•    Constant use of hands and arms reaching, grasping, fingering, gripping, and handling, while using hand and power tools, performing labor tasks and shoveling. Can involve extensive use of hand tools in shoveling, raking, etc.
•    Constant use of sight abilities, including hand and eye coordination and depth perception to safely operate tools, equipment, and vehicles.
•    Constant use of speech/hearing, in communicating with coworkers, and citizens and maintaining a safe work environment.
•    Regular and timely attendance is required.
