CNLV Police Department appearance policy prohibits tattoos on the hands, face, neck, and head, including behind the ear. The only exception is a simple wedding band on the ring finger. If you have any prohibited tattoo, you are not eligible for the position. If it is removed, you would then be eligible to apply for the position.
ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

Pay Considerations – The starting hourly pay for this position is $31.48. The selected candidate for this position starting salary is dependent on education, qualifications, and experience. An increase in starting pay may be evaluated by years of service and approved by the Chief. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day, (36 hour work week) Sunday - Wednesday, 6:00am to 4:00pm. This position may be required to work various shifts; emergency call outs; possible required overtime.
The Role
The Lateral Correction Officer works under general supervision, performs security work overseeing and directing the activities of inmates within the Community Correctional Center and during transport to other facilities, and performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Minimum age of 21 at time of application
U.S. Citizen
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess a valid and current state driver's license at time of application. Must possess a valid and current NV state driver's license at time of hire and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record for duration of employment.
- Minimum of two (2) years of current, continuous uninterrupted service with a law enforcement agency in the performance of duties directly related to Category 3 Nevada POST standards at time of application.
- Applicant shall possess a valid Category 3 Nevada Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certificate or valid equivalent Peace Officer Certificate. A copy of the applicant’s current and valid Nevada POST Category 3 certificate or equivalent MUST be attached to the online application.
SELECTION PROCESS
Complete Online Application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the physical fitness test. The selection process will include (dates to be determined).
Physical Fitness Test -
Oral Board Interview - (pass/fail)
Pre-Employment Screening –Background Screening/Investigation Includes an extensive background check, polygraph/CVSA examination, medical/drug screen exam. All top scoring candidates must pass the Background Investigation in order to move forward in the process. Applicants who proceed in the selection process will be required to complete an extensive police background. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 3 to 4 months to complete. Among other items, the following are disqualifying behaviors:
Any felony conviction.
Any domestic violence conviction.
Gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
Although there have been recent changes to laws regarding the legal possession and consumption of marijuana, the City of North Las Vegas will continue to adhere to its professional standards and guidelines as it relates to recent and continuous use of the drug.
Selection/Offers – Will be made at completion of background.
The selection process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
