Qualifications and Attributes:
Education and Experience:
•    High school diploma or equivalent and four years of highly responsible office support experience.

•    Experience working in a law enforcement agency preferable.

•    Continuing education in secretarial science, business or a job-related field preferable.

 

 

Licenses and Certifications:
•    Required to possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain an appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within the required time frame.

•    Must type 30 accurate net words per minute as demonstrated by a typing certificate dated no more than one year prior to the date of application.

•    NCIC Certification within six months of hire/reclassification. 

•    May be required to obtain or possess Notary Public certification.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

•    Knowledge of data entry and filing techniques and practices.

•    Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and the ability to speak clearly.

•    Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, other departments, governmental agencies and the public.

•    Interact with people during stressful or emotional situations.

•    Analytical skills necessary to perform numerical calculations to obtain totals, balances and verify information from various different forms and transfer to computers or manual reports.  

•    Deals with confidential and sensitive information.

•    Ability to learn the rules, regulations, operating policies and procedures of the Law Enforcement Support Technician functions.

•    Communicating orally with others in order to give and receive information in a courteous manner.

•    Ability to use word processing, other software, computers and peripheral equipment assigned.

•    Ability to assemble, organize, and maintain complex records; and prepare summaries of records and reports.

•    Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration associated with answering the phones or speaking in person to citizens requiring assistance.

•    Skill in the organization and prioritization of tasks.

•    Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations.

•    Perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

•    Typing to input and retrieve data on a computer

•    Required to integrate and interpret data from various sources.

•    Multi-frequency radio communications and operations.

•    Maintaining records and preparing of reports.

•    Reacting quickly and calmly in unknown and precarious situations.

•    Work under pressure, exercise good judgment and make sound decisions in emergency situations.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:
•    This classification provides services 24 hours each day, seven days each week.  Shift work, including swing and graveyard shifts, weekends and working on holidays may be required.

•    Working conditions are typically moderately quiet, but can be loud in certain sections of the correctional center.

•    While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is on occasion exposed to loud noise, dirt, offensive language, offensive actions, offensive smells, bodily fluids, arrestees, inmates and inmate property; occasional exposure to sick inmates and typical jail hygiene problems, potential hostile environments typical to a correctional center.

•    While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to work in a typical office environment, use standard office equipment, read printed material and a computer terminal/screen, communicate in person and over the telephone, and is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to fingers, handle, or feel, climb or balance, talk and hear, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING:

Candidates for this position are subject to a Pre-employment screening. Pre-employment screening includes but is not limited to: Local & State Criminal History Check; Federal Criminal History Check via submission of fingerprints; Drug screening.
