A Law Enforcement Support Technician is an essential member of our team and we invite you to apply and help contribute to CNLV’S growing success!
This posting will create a non-probationary internal Teamster eligibility list and fill 6 vacancies for this classification. The current vacancy is in the Police department. The eligibility list will be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification, for up to one hundred eighty (180) days. Non-probationary Teamster team members successfully completing the selection process will be placed on the eligibility list.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

- Pay Considerations – The starting hourly pay for this position is $27.61. The selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
- Work Schedule – This position supports the Community Correctional Center operation that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You must be able to work any shift (days, swings, or graveyard), and any day of the week, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- Environment – Working conditions are typically moderately quiet, but can be loud in certain sections of the correctional center. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is on occasion exposed to loud noise, dirt, offensive language, offensive actions, offensive smells, bodily fluids, arrestees, inmates and inmate property; occasional exposure to sick inmates and typical jail hygiene problems, potential hostile environments typical to a correctional center. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to work in a typical office environment, use standard office equipment, read printed material and a computer terminal/screen, communicate in person and over the telephone, and is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to fingers, handle, or feel, climb or balance, talk and hear, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
THE ROLE
Performs clerical, reception and communications duties and technical tasks relative to the booking and release of inmates and maintaining the safety and security of the facility. Assures the establishment, updating, and maintenance of accurate records for those past and present persons incarcerated at the correctional center; maintains inmate personal property; and serves as initial contact for all courts and transportation of inmates including warrant confirmation. Processes and files documents, answers telephones, interacts with general public, provides general information, maintains reports and files, collects money, and performs complex, specialized clerical duties relative to confidential police and inmate records. Performs operation of computerized electronic security and communications equipment and devices to monitor the safety, security, transportation, and placement of inmates assigned to the correctional center; controls access to correctional center by electronically opening and closing doors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent and four years of highly responsible office support experience.
- Experience working in a law enforcement agency preferable.
- Continuing education in secretarial science, business or a job-related field preferable.
- Required to possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record
with the ability to obtain an appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within the required time
frame.
Licenses and Certifications
- Must type 30 accurate net words per minute as demonstrated by a typing certificate dated no more
than one year prior to the date of application. - NCIC Certification within six months of hire/reclassification.
- May be required to obtain or possess Notary Public certification.
SELECTION PROCESS
- Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
- The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include (dates to be determined).
- Personnel File Review (Pass/Fail, Minimum passing score is 75%) - All current employees seeking internal positions will undergo a personnel file review. The personnel file review includes a current employment status check (probationary/qualifying periods), and a review of active discipline and most recent performance evaluation. Employees with a rating that does not meet minimum standards may be disqualified from this recruitment process.
- Typing Test (Pass/Fail - Passing Score 30 NWPM).
- Online Assessment (Pass/Fail - Passing Score 70%) - The test will measure knowledge in basic mathematics, proofreading, filing, organization, and data entry.
- Oral Board Interview (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%).
- Pre-Employment Screening – Background Screening/Investigation Includes an extensive background check, polygraph/CVSA examination, medical/drug screen exam. All top scoring candidates must pass the Background Investigation in order to move forward in the process. Applicants who proceed in the selection process will be required to complete an extensive police background. Among other items, the following are disqualifying behaviors:
• Any felony conviction.
• Any domestic violence conviction.
• Gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
• Although there have been recent changes to laws regarding the legal possession and consumption of marijuana, the City of North Las Vegas will continue to adhere to its professional standards and guidelines as it relates to recent and continuous use of the drug. - Selection/Offers
Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
The selection process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
