MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
 
Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with post high school training in computers and public relations.

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in Law Enforcement (i.e. Corrections, Patrol, Security, Emergency Dispatching, and Inmate Records) or an equivalent position, including one year of lead worker or supervisory experience. 

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.

  • NCIC/NCJIS/SCOPE Certification at time of hire/reclassification.

  • Instructor Development Certification and Field Training Evaluation Program completion within 18 months of hire/reclassification. 

Skills:

  • Supervising employees who perform Law Enforcement Support Technician and related functions at a correctional facility.

  • Using word processing software and a familiarity of computer operations.  Typing to input and retrieve data on a computer.

  • Perform numerical calculations to obtain totals, balances, and verify information from forms and transfer to computers or manual reports.

  • Radio communications and operations.

  • Working independently on complex and confidential record keeping tasks.

  • Maintaining complex records, assembling and organizing data, and preparing summaries of reports from such records.

  • Knowledge of inmate rights.

  • Making sound decisions in accordance with department practices.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

  • Maintaining, troubleshooting and making minor repairs on assigned equipment.

  • Dealing with people in stressful/emotional situations.

  • Reacting quickly and calmly in unknown or precarious situations.
