MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

 

  • Must currently possess a Nevada Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Category III certification*
  • High school diploma or equivalent, minimum age of 21 at time of filing, U.S. Citizen, Character above reproach. Must be able to work in a security type environment and manage stressful and potentially dangerous/difficult inmate contact situations.
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience which produces knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job and related to the essential functions of the position

 

Licenses and Certifications

 

  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.
  • Must be able to obtain appropriate POST CAT 3 Certification within established time period.

 

SELECTION PROCESS

 

1. Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.

2. Pass Physical Fitness Test – Administered by appointment only. Candidate that passes Physical test will move on to interview process.

  • Vertical Jump       15 inches.
  • Agility Run            20.4 seconds.
  • Push-Ups              20 (no time limit).
  • 300 Meter Run    74 seconds.
  • 1.5 mile Run         17:37

5. Oral Panel Interview - Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%.

6. Candidate Selection – Candidate that passes will be moved on to the background check process.

7. Pre-Employment Screening –Background Screening/Investigation Includes an extensive background check, polygraph/CVSA examination, medical/drug screen exam, and a psychological evaluation. All top scoring candidates must pass the Background Investigation in order to move forward in the process. Applicants who proceed in the selection process will be required to complete an extensive police background. Among other items, the following are disqualifying behaviors: 

·         Any felony conviction.

·         Any domestic violence conviction.

·         Gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

·         Although there have been recent changes to laws regarding the legal possession and consumption of marijuana, the City of North Las Vegas will continue to adhere to its professional standards and guidelines as it relates to recent and continuous use of the drug.
