MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of two (2) years of highly responsible office support experience.
- Continuing education in secretarial science, business or related to job is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within the required time frame.
- NCIC Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire (Police department positions only)
- Typing Certificate – 45 net words per minute
SELECTION PROCESS
1. Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
2. Typing Test (Pass/Fail)
3. Online Assessment. The test will measure knowledge in basic mathematics, proofreading, filing, organization, time management, scheduling, and budget management. (Weighted 20%, Passing Score 70%)
4. Oral Board Interview (Weighted 80%, Passing Score 70%)
5. Pre-Employment Screening –Background Screening/Investigation Includes an extensive background check, polygraph/CVSA examination, medical/drug screen exam. All top scoring candidates must pass the Background Investigation in order to move forward in the process. Applicants who proceed in the selection process will be required to complete an extensive police background. Among other items, the following are disqualifying behaviors:
· Any felony conviction.
· Any domestic violence conviction.
· Gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
· Although there have been recent changes to laws regarding the legal possession and consumption of marijuana, the City of North Las Vegas will continue to adhere to its professional standards and guidelines as it relates to recent and continuous use of the drug.
6. Selection/Offers
Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
The selection process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
