ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following)

•    Mows, trims, edges, and fertilizes parks, playing fields, and other landscaped areas.

•    Cleans, disinfects, and re-stocks restrooms.

•    Picks up trash and empties trash cans.

•    Weeds, prunes, mulches, and fertilizes turf, trees, plants, and shrubbery.

•    Prepares soil for planting; overseeds and re-sods turf areas; plants trees, seedlings, and shrubs.

•    Installs, repairs, and maintains irrigation systems.

•    Checks assigned areas and either corrects and/or reports safety hazards.

•    Cleans and maintains all facilities assigned to park maintenance division.

•    Grooms and prepares ballfields and other park facilities.

•    Mixes and applies herbicides, fungicides, and non-restricted use pesticides.

•    Sets up, lays out, and removes equipment and supplies for special events and/or large groups.

•    Maintains and performs repair work on a variety of park facilities and equipment, including plumbing and painting.

•    Uses a variety of hand and power landscaping tools and equipment including mowers, blowers, hedge trimmers, weed eaters, rakes, shovels, hula hoes, brooms, and other tools; makes minor repairs such as sharpening blades; and routine park maintenance.

•    Operates mowers, riding mowers, weed eaters, blowers, sweepers, hedge trimmers, and other equipment and vehicles.

•    Observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment. Secures work sites from safety hazards as necessary.

•    Responds to questions and complainants from the public in a courteous manner.

•    May instruct and direct the work of part-time and/or less experienced staff.

•    Maintains golf course facilities, including pick up litter/trash; clean and disinfect restrooms and locker rooms; cleans windows, and staff areas.

•    Removal of trash, graffiti, debris, vagrant camps, shopping carts and other abandoned items from assigned work areas.

•    Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:
•    High school diploma or equivalent and; 
•    6 months progressively responsible experience performing park, landscape, or horticulture maintenance work.
•    Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provides knowledge, skills, and abilities, required for the job and related to the essential functions of the position.


Licenses and Certifications:

•    Must possess or obtain a valid Nevada driver’s license at time of hire and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record for the duration of employment.

•    Complete an OSHA-10 course in construction/general industry safety and health hazard recognition and prevention within 15 calendar days after hire. Completion card must be continuously maintained while employed in this classification. 

Knowledge:

•    Practices, methods and materials used in park maintenance, grounds maintenance and general maintenance work.

•    Equipment and tools used in the area of work assigned.

•    Traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved in equipment operations.

•    Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Skills:

•    Maintain a variety of landscaped areas.

•    Installation, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems.

•    Performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance. 

•    Operating a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner.

•    Performing manual labor.

•    Using small hand and power tools, such as shovels, rakes, brooms, weed-eaters, blowers, etc.

•    Understanding and following oral and written instructions.

•    Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

•    Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contracted in the course of work.

•    Working independently in the absence of supervision.

Physical and Mental Abilities:

•    Constantly standing, in combination with walking, indoors and outdoors, while performing general maintenance duties. 

•    Frequent lifting and carrying between 5 and 50lbs. tools, trash, equipment, vegetation and debris.

•    Frequently bending/twisting, at waist, knees and neck while working in a variety of positions performing maintenance and manual labor duties. May be required to do extensive shoveling, raking, hoeing and weeding.

•    Frequent kneeling/crouching/crawling, while performing manual labor, repair and maintenance duties at street or ground level. 

•    Constant use of hands and arms reaching, grasping, fingering, gripping and handling, while using hand and power tools, performing labor tasks and shoveling. Can involve extensive use of hand tools in shoveling, raking, etc.

•    Constant use of sight abilities, including hand and eye coordination and depth perception to safely operate tools, equipment and vehicles.

•    Constant use of speech/hearing, in communicating with coworkers and citizens and maintaining a safe work environment.


Working Conditions:

•    Working mostly outdoors in an environment with exposure to all typical weather conditions, including travel from site to site, and indoors within various building facilities.

•    May be required to wear personal protective equipment while performing tasks. 

•    Regular and timely attendance is required.
