MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
β’ Bachelorβs Degree from accredited college or university in Parks & Recreation; Horticulture; Landscaping; Business Administration; Public Administration, or closely related field.
β’ Seven (7) years of experience in parks and facility maintenance, parks management, or related area, including four (4) years of supervisory experience.
β’ Or, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. The city assesses 1 year of fulltime experience as equivalent to one year of education.
Licenses and Certifications:
β’ Must possess or obtain a valid Nevada driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record.
β’ Obtain (and maintain) an OSHA 30-hour card within 15 days of hire (NRS 618.983).
Preferred Qualifications:
β’ Desirable: Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) certification from National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
β’ Thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies, and operating procedures of the Park Maintenance Division; methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the operation, construction, and maintenance of municipal parks.
β’ Thorough knowledge of sports programming, including adult and youth sports; and Sports allocations.
β’ Ability to use initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines; demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships in bringing people together to solve problems.
β’ Ability to speak effectively in public situations; effectively explain policies and procedures.
β’ Skilled experience to assume management level leadership responsibilities and make appropriate decisions; Prepare reports and present statistical information; Evaluate and interpret data and performance outcome measures.
β’ Develop and manage budgets; set priorities and goals. Train and supervise the work of others
Working Conditions:
β’ Mobility to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment, and to drive a motor vehicle in order to visit work sites and attend meetings; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
β’ While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
β’ Working conditions are typically moderately quiet but are occasionally loud.
β’ May be required to wear personal protective equipment.
β’ Regular and timely attendance is required; employee may be required to work an alternative schedule, outside of normal business hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and/or extended hours.
