MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university in Parks & Recreation; Horticulture; Landscaping; Business Administration; Public Administration, or closely related field.
• Seven (7) years of experience in parks and facility maintenance, parks management, or related area, including four (4) years of supervisory experience.
• Or, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. The city assesses 1 year of fulltime experience as equivalent to one year of education.
Licenses and Certifications:
• Must possess or obtain a valid Nevada driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record.
• Obtain (and maintain) an OSHA 30-hour card within 15 days of hire (NRS 618.983).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Desirable: Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) certification from National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies, and operating procedures of the Park Maintenance Division; methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the operation, construction, and maintenance of municipal parks.
• Thorough knowledge of sports programming, including adult and youth sports; and Sports allocations.
• Ability to use initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines; demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships in bringing people together to solve problems.
• Ability to speak effectively in public situations; effectively explain policies and procedures.
• Skilled experience to assume management level leadership responsibilities and make appropriate decisions; Prepare reports and present statistical information; Evaluate and interpret data and performance outcome measures.
• Develop and manage budgets; set priorities and goals. Train and supervise the work of others
Working Conditions:
• Mobility to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment, and to drive a motor vehicle in order to visit work sites and attend meetings; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
• While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
• Working conditions are typically moderately quiet but are occasionally loud.
• May be required to wear personal protective equipment.
• Regular and timely attendance is required; employee may be required to work an alternative schedule, outside of normal business hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and/or extended hours.
