MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in civil, structural or architectural engineering or a field related to the work; and,
- Two years of experience in Structural Engineering Design; or two years’ experience as a Plans Examiner; or two years’ experience in Architectural Design with emphasis on building codes and regulations.
- Equivalency: Four years of experience as a Plans Examiner or four years’ experience in Architectural Design with exposure to building codes and regulations or five years’ experience in Engineering Structural Design may be substituted for the education and experience required above.
Licenses and Certifications
- International Code Council (ICC) Plans Examiner certification within one year of hire or promotion.
- Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.
SELECTION PROCESS
- Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
- The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process.
- Oral Panel Interview - Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%.
- Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.

Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
