Education and Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED at the time of hire into the position.
- Preferred Qualifications: Successful completion of law enforcement emergency response training and/or experience using a multi-line telephone system and/or a two-way radio system. Possesses the ability to speak Spanish fluently.
Licenses and Certifications:
- NCIC Certification within six months of hire/reclassification and be recertified as required.
- Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record, and the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.
- Typing Certificate confirming Typing 45 accurate net words per minute. (Certificate dated no less than one (1) year from application/transfer date.)
SELECTION PROCESS
1. Typing Test (Pass/Fail)
Must be able to type 45 accurate net words per minute. The typing test will be provided by the department via CritiCall. In order to move on to the next step in the selection process candidates must pass the typing test.
2. CritiCall Test (Ranked based on scores: Overall Data Entry - 3436 keystrokes per hour, and Non-Data Entry - 68%)
Once the application and other supporting documentation have been reviewed and it has been determined that the minimum qualifications have been met, an invitation to take the CritiCall Test may be sent. The invitation and testing instructions will be sent to the email provided on the application. The CritiCall Test is a computer-based test that is used for the Police Communications Dispatcher position. The test measures job-related skills that are necessary for this position. The CritiCall Test modules include:
- Decision Making
- Data Entry
- Call Summarization
- Cross Referencing
- Memory Recall
- Prioritization
- Map Reading
- Spelling
- Sentence Clarity
- Reading Comprehension
- Character Comparison
- Personality Test
Candidates must achieve the required minimum score determined by the Department using a validation process. Allow 2-3 hours to complete the test. Those successfully completing the CritiCall Test, may be called for an interview. The North Las Vegas Police Department reserves the right to modify the selection processes and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
3. Oral board interview with performance exercise (Pass/Fail)
Top qualifying candidates will then be invited to an oral interview, by appointment only. During the interview process, a performance exam will be administered.
4. Background Investigation
Includes an extensive background check, polygraph/CVSA examination, medical/drug screen exam. All top scoring candidates must pass the Background Investigation in order to move forward in the process.
5. Selection/Offers
BACKGROUND PROCESS & PRE EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Candidates for this position are subject to pre-employment screenings and employment is contingent upon these results. Pre-employment screenings may include but are not limited to: local, state, and federal criminal history checks, and may require submission of fingerprints; drug screen; and physical examinations to include a psychological evaluation.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
- All selected candidates will start at Step 1 with an hourly rate of $28.05.
