A Pretreatment Inspector 1 is an essential member of our team and we invite you to apply and help contribute to CNLV’S growing success!
This posting will create a non-probationary internal Teamster eligibility list and fill one (1) vacancy for this classification. The current vacancy is in the Utilities department. The eligibility list will be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification, for up to one hundred eighty (180) days. Non-probationary Teamster team members successfully completing the selection process will be placed on the eligibility list.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

- Pay Considerations –The starting hourly pay for this position is $31.32. The selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
- Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 4:30pm. May be required to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by department needs.
- Environment – The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals, walking, and working on slippery and uneven surfaces. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing essential functions of position. Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds unassisted.
THE ROLE
Enforces the City’s Industrial Waste Pretreatment Program in compliance with the federal Clean Water Act. Collects samples and performs various tests, surveys, and observations of water, wastewater, industrial waste, and by-products of the water, and wastewater treatment process; determines their components; prepares reports of the results of these tests. Reviews building plans for compliance with the City’s Industrial Waste Pretreatment Program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) to two (2) years of field water or wastewater treatment experience.
- Prefer two years of college or university courses in biology, chemistry or a related field.
Licenses and Certifications
- Must possess and maintain a Nevada Water Pollution Control Association certification as an Industrial Waste Inspector within one year of hire, transfer, reclassification, or promotion.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada State Class “C” Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada driver’s license within the state’s required time frame.
- Must possess and maintain Barricading Certification, IMSA Work Zone Safety or Traffic Control Certificate within one year of hire, transfer, reclassification, or promotion.
SELECTION PROCESS
- Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
- Personnel File Review - Pass/Fail, Minimum passing score is 75%- All current employees seeking internal positions will undergo a personnel file review. The personnel file review includes a current employment status check (probationary/qualifying periods), and a review of active discipline and most recent performance evaluation. Employees with a rating that does not meet minimum standards may be disqualified from this recruitment process.
- Written Examination (Weighted 50%, Passing Score 70%). Test will measure knowledge of basic wastewater treatment and basic biology, chemistry, and laboratory work.
- Oral Board Interview (Weighted 50%, Passing Score 70%):
- Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. **IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete
- Selection/Offers-
Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
