MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:

•    Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business, public relations, marketing, journalism, communications, or a closely related field; and

•    Minimum of one year (1) years recent professional work experience in public relations, marketing, journalism, communications, media coverage or related area.

•    Demonstrated experience required in working with the public, social media, and dealing with topics under intense public and media scrutiny.

•    Fluency in Spanish, both orally and in written, is required. 

•    Or, an equivalent combination of education, training or experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job and related to the essential functions of the position. The City assesses one (1) year of fulltime experience as equivalent to one (1) year of education. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•    Ability to understand the organization and operation of the City departments and divisions.

•    Ability to understand information and processes to provide direction to others.  Ability to develop and maintaining effective working relationships with City team members.

•    Ability to perform responsible and difficult administrative work in a high-profile position dealing with topics under intense public and media scrutiny and respond rapidly as situations change.

•    Being proactive and using initiative and independent judgement within established guidelines.

•    Ability to interpret, explain, apply City policies and procedures.

•    Ability to communicate clearly and concisely; English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation both orally and in writing. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in Spanish both verbally and in writing.  

WORKING CONDITIONS:
•    Works in a normal office environment where there is little or no physical discomfort associated with changes in weather or discomfort associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.

•    As necessary, attends meetings and events outside of normal working hours; may be required to respond to urgent situations during evenings, weekends, and holidays.

•    Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to lift a minimum of 15 pounds unassisted.

•    The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.

•    The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.

•    Regular and timely attendance is required.
