ESSENTIAL INFORMATION
THE ROLE
The Building Maintenance Intern will support the Public Works Building Maintenance Division by assisting with administrative, inventory, and asset management activities that help maintain City facilities and operations. This includes responding to service requests, creating work orders, assisting with purchasing and receiving, entering inventory and asset information into Maximo, preparing work order and inventory reports, and organizing digital records. The intern will also support inventory control efforts by performing cycle counts, serializing tools and equipment, maintaining asset specifications, manuals, and warranty information, and assisting with invoice data entry. Depending on departmental needs, the intern may also help develop preventive maintenance job plans, create training materials and standard operating procedures, and update GIS location data for City assets. Beyond the day-to-day responsibilities, this internship provides hands-on exposure to municipal facility operations, computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), and asset management while offering the opportunity to contribute to process improvements that enhance operational efficiency and data accuracy.
The hourly pay for this position is $15 - $19 (based on education level).
Work Schedule
This position is scheduled to work up to 28 hours weekly between Monday and Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Hours are flexible.
This internship period will start August 24th and end on December 10th
Part-Time/Temporary Position
- This position is a part time/temporary position and does not include health or medical benefits.
- Hours for this position will not exceed 935 per calendar year (see weekly hours for this position under work schedule).

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is a motivated student pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Construction Management, Facilities Management, Supply Chain Management, Information Systems, Engineering Technology, or a related field who enjoys working with both data and operational processes. We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and dependable, with strong computer skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate communicates effectively, works well independently and as part of a team, and is comfortable learning new software and following established procedures. Experience with Microsoft Excel, inventory systems, databases, or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) such as Maximo is a plus, but not required. Most importantly, we're looking for someone with a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and an interest in gaining hands-on experience supporting municipal building maintenance, asset management, and public works operations.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Current enrollment in any of the following degree programs: Facilities Management, Operations Management, Construction Management or a related field
- Current enrollment with a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester (undergraduate level) or 3 credit hours per semester (graduate level)
- Recent graduates are encouraged to apply
- Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
- A valid Nevada driver’s license
- Legal right to work in the U.S.
