MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in Parks and Recreation, Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Services, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time work experience in the recreation field and/or experience developing, coordinating, planning, and implementing recreation programs, activities, services, or events for a government agency, including two (2) years in a supervisory/administrative role.
  • Equivalency: an equivalent combination of related education, experience, and training which produces the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must possess or obtain a valid Nevada driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record. 
  • Various licenses and certifications must be required within six (6) months to twelve (12) months of hire and maintained based on assigned program area including but not limited to: 
    o    First Aid / CPR 
    o    Southern Nevada Health District Food Handler Safety Training Card 
    o    Lifeguard/Lifeguard Instructor 
  • Desirable Certifications: Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP), Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE), or Nevada Recreation and Park Society L.E.A.D Institute Certification.

SELECTION PROCESS
1.    Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
2.    SB327 Oral Board Interview (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%): Week of Monday, August 7, 2023. SB327 Review/appeal date: Week of Monday, August 14, 2023
3.    Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history check via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. 
4.    Selection/Offers

Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.

The selection process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
