ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

  • Pay Considerations – The salary range for the position is $72,903.49. The selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions. 
  • Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day, (36 hour work week) Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:00pm. The employee must also be available after hours in the event of a call.

THE ROLE
Perform professional level work assisting with the coordination of the City’s Safety, Risk and Health Programs; to provide assistance to departments regarding health and safety regulations; to ensure the city meets OSHA regulations regarding employee training; perform related duties as assigned.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate for this position possesses strong knowledge and skills in risk management and workplace safety. They are well-versed in current laws and regulations and are proactive in identifying and addressing potential hazards. This individual demonstrates initiative, supports the goals of the Risk Management Division, and aligns with the broader mission of the City. They are committed to fostering a safe and healthy work environment for employees, while also ensuring the safety and well-being of the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in occupational safety and health; business public administration or closely related field.
  • Five years of responsible experience developing or administrating an industrial safety program, industrial safety, loss control, accident prevention or a closely related field.
  • Experience in conducting safety training
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Power Point, Excel, and Word).
  • May substitute a combination of equivalent education and experience. The City assesses 2 years of full-time experience as equivalent to one year of education.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified in Safety Management Preferred (i.e., CSP, CSM, CSHM, ASHM)
  • OSHA 10 Hour and OSHA 30 Hour Required.
  • OSHA 500 & 501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety & Health Standards for the Construction and General Industry required.
  • Desirable: Certification from an organization equivalent to ISHM, ASSE, or the BCSP.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record; with the ability to obtain an appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within the required time frame.

SELECTION PROCESS

  2. The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. 
  3. Oral Board Interview - (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%).
  4. Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.
  5. Selection/Offers

The selection process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
