ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

- Pay Considerations –The starting hourly pay for this position is $27.82. The selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions.
- Work Schedule – This position supports an operation that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You must be able to work any shift (days, swings, or graveyard), any day, weekends, holidays, and overtime shifts. Currently, the schedule consists of 10-hour shifts and are divided into two squads with days off being Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, or Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
THE ROLE
Performs highly responsible duties in the preparation and maintenance of the City’s financial, accounting and statistical records and reports to ensure the timely and accurate reporting of operations in accordance with sound financial management principles and practices.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and possess strong accounting experience, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all financial processes. This individual will demonstrate a collaborative approach, working effectively with team members and other departments to meet organizational goals. They will bring a positive demeanor to the workplace, fostering a productive and professional environment. The ability to clearly articulate thoughts, both verbally and in writing, is essential, as is effective problem solving to address challenges proactively. Flexibility and adaptability are key traits, allowing the candidate to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines while maintaining a high standard of work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, finance, public administration, accounting or a related field; and,
- Four years of progressively complex and responsible accounting work experience to include financial and statistical record keeping in payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, financial reporting, bank reconciliations and general ledger using complex Excel spreadsheets. Experience with governmental accounting systems in a public agency setting is desirable.
- Equivalency: Eight years of progressively responsible accounting work experience to include financial and statistical record keeping in payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, financial reporting, bank reconciliations and general ledger using complex Excel spreadsheets may be substituted for the required education and the experience listed above.
Licenses and Certifications
- Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.
SELECTION PROCESS
- Complete Online Application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
- The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best-qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process.
- Oral Board Interview with Excel Practical- (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%)
- Pre-Employment Screening – Background Screening/Investigation Includes an extensive background check, polygraph/CVSA examination, medical/drug screen exam. All top scoring candidates must pass the Background Investigation in order to move forward in the process. Applicants who proceed in the selection process will be required to complete an extensive police background. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 3 to 4 months to complete. Among other items, the following are disqualifying behaviors:
• Any felony conviction.
• Any domestic violence conviction.
• Gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
• Although there have been recent changes to laws regarding the legal possession and consumption of marijuana, the City of North Las Vegas will continue to adhere to its professional standards and guidelines as it relates to recent and continuous use of the drug.
5. Selection/Offers
The selection process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
