The City of North Las Vegas is pleased to announce the recruitment and selection process for the position of Senior Deputy City Attorney! This announcement provides background information about the organization, the requirements and expected qualifications for the position, and selection process information.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City is filling one (1) vacancy for this position. This position performs advanced professional legal work and provides legal advice and representation to the City Council, boards and commissions, and various City departments. The role involves researching legal issues; drafting and reviewing ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other legal documents; preparing legal opinions; and representing the City in legal proceedings and negotiations. Responsibilities also include advising staff on legal and regulatory matters, supporting City initiatives and projects, and assisting with complex municipal legal issues. The position may also supervise legal staff, coordinate legal work assignments, and provide guidance on specialized legal matters, including real estate and transactional agreements involving City property, development projects, and other municipal operations.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an experienced attorney with at least seven years' experience, with a minimum of two years (preferably three or more) of experience as an attorney for a public agency, who can provide sound legal advice and practical guidance to City leadership, departments, boards, and commissions. This individual will have strong skills in legal research, drafting contracts and legal documents, and representing the City in legal matters. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to manage complex legal issues, communicate clearly with both legal and non-legal audiences, and work collaboratively in a municipal environment. Preferred experience includes real estate and transactional law work, preferably in real estate matters, such as drafting and negotiating agreements related to property acquisition, easements, leases, and development projects. Experience handling land use matters and familiarity with open meeting law and public records law is preferred. A commitment to professionalism, sound judgment, and public service is essential.

- Work Schedule - The schedule consists of Monday- Thursday 8am – 6pm
- Pay considerations – The salary range for this position is $118,653.34 - $193,354.87. Salary offers will be made depending on qualifications and experience.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Undergraduate degree from accredited college or university; and,
- LLB or JD from accredited law school; and,
- Two (2) years of progressively more responsible professional legal work experience for the City of North Las Vegas or an equivalent local agency in the assigned specialty area.
Licenses and Certifications:
- State Bar of Nevada at time of hire.
- Federal District Court of Nevada at time of hire.
- Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume. The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include:

3.Selection Interview
4.Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. **IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.
This process may be modified to include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
Appointment may be subject to the successful and timely completion of a post offer pre-employment background investigation and medical/physical examination, including a drug/alcohol test.
