IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate for the Engineering Design role is a highly skilled professional with strong experience in capital improvement project delivery, from planning through design. This experience should include leading the development of scope of services and fees, complex plans, specifications, cost estimates, and bid packages, while effectively managing contracts and ensuring compliance with codes and standards.  Familiarity with bidding and awarding public contracts is a bonus.  This individual is a proactive problem-solver who collaborates seamlessly with architects, engineers, contractors, and maintenance staff, providing technical oversight and ensuring projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a closely related field. 
  • Four (4) years of professional engineering experience in the applicable area of responsibility (Engineering Services, Development and Flood Control, Technical Services, Water/Wastewater or Transportation Services), preferably in a public agency.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Nevada state driver’s license, and maintain asatisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Nevada. If registered in another state must obtainNevada registration within one (1) year of hire/reclassification.Registered Professional Architect inState of Nevada. If registered in another state must obtain Nevada registration within one (1) yearof hire/reclassification. (Public Works, Engineering Services candidates only).

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. Complete Online Application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
  2. The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include (dates to be determined).
  3. Internal posting only: Personnel File Review - Pass/Fail, Minimum passing score is 75%- All current employees seeking internal positions will undergo a personnel file review. The personnel file review includes a current employment status check (probationary/qualifying periods), and a review of active discipline and most recent performance evaluation. Employees with a rating that does not meet minimum standards may be disqualified from this recruitment process.
  4. Oral Board Interview (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%):   
  5. Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.  
  6. Selection/Offers -

Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
