A PART-TIME TEMPORARY Senior Lifeguard is an essential member of our team, we invite you to apply and help contribute to CNLV’S growing success! Please thoroughly review the information and selection process outlined below this announcement.
ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

Part-Time/Temporary Position – This position is a part time/temporary position and DOES NOT include health or medical benefits. Hours for this position will not exceed 938 per calendar year.
Pay Considerations – The hourly pay for this position is $19.00.
Work Schedule – You must be able to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, overtime, stand by and holidays.
Environment –
- The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
- The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
- The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals, walking, and working on slippery and uneven surfaces.
- The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
- The worker is exposed to infectious diseases or other possible infectious materials.
- Exposed to blood
- Exposed to fecal matter
- Exposed to OPIM
Work Location – Multiple recreational centers across North Las Vegas. Applicants should indicate their preferred location using the dropdown menu above.
THE ROLE
Under general supervision, responsible for the efficient and safe operation of the City of North Las Vegas swimming pools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Minimum age of 18 years
- Minimum of nine (9) months experience in working with youth and adults in a responsible position or;
- Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position.
Licenses and Certifications
- Must possess a valid state of Nevada driver’s license/Identification Credential or have the ability to obtain, and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
- Applicants must be able to obtain all required below certifications within two weeks of date of hire and prior to working in Pool Manager or an instructor capacity. NLS will provide all need training.
- American Red Cross or StarGuard Lifeguard Training Certificate which includes Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- Water Safety Instructor Certificate
- Lifeguard Training Instructor Certificate
SELECTION PROCESS
1. Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
2. The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process.
3. Swim Skills Assessment (Pass/Fail) - This test evaluates your comfort and ability in deep water. Candidates will be assessed on:
• Swimming
• Surface dives
• Treading water
• Weight retrieval
4. Oral board interview (Pass/Fail)
5. Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history check via submission of fingerprints; drug screening; and a Child Abuse & Neglect Registry clearance for applicants 18 years of age or above. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.
