We are excited to announce a job opening for a Senior Office  Assistant – Citywide Classification within the City of North Las Vegas (CNLV). This is a great opportunity to contribute to our organization's continued success.

This job posting will create a citywide eligibility list specifically for internal, non-probationary Teamster members. This list will be used to fill Senior Office Assistant vacancies across various departments, excluding Police and Corrections.

The eligibility list will be active for up to 180 days. All non-probationary Teamster members who successfully complete the selection process will be placed on this list.

In accordance with our collective bargaining agreement, we will first attempt to fill the position from the internal Teamster eligibility list. All other employees (including part-time and temporary staff) and external candidates are welcome to apply. If the position is not filled by a full-time, non-probationary Teamster member, we will then consider qualified part-time/temporary employees and external candidates.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

  • Pay Considerations –The starting hourly pay for this position is $26.11 The selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
  • Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day (36-hour work week), Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:00pm 


THE ROLE
Provides technical or specialized office support requiring the regular use of independent judgment and initiative. Incumbents perform the full range of assigned duties with a significant degree of independence and sound judgment with regard to the department’s procedures and practices. This class differs from the Office Assistant in the complexity and the incumbents’ knowledge of the department’s standards and procedures. Incumbents may perform as the lead worker.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two (2) years of highly responsible office support experience Continuing education in secretarial science, business or related to job is preferred.
  • Two (2) years as an Office Assistant with the City of North Las Vegas.
  • Equivalency: Any combination of four (4) years of related education, training, and experience that produce the knowledge and skills required to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within the required time frame.
  • NCIC Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire (Police department positions only).
  • Typing Certificate – 45 net words per minute

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. Complete Online Application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
  2. The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include (dates to be determined).
  3. Personnel File Review - Pass/Fail, Minimum passing score is 75% All current employees seeking internal positions will undergo a personnel file review. The personnel file review includes a current employment status check (probationary/qualifying periods), and a review of active discipline and most recent performance evaluation. Employees with a rating that does not meet minimum standards may be disqualified from this recruitment process.
  4. Typing Test - (Pass/Fail). 45 net words per minute.  To be administered by the City.  
  5. E-Skill Assessment - The test will measure knowledge in basic mathematics, proofreading, filing, organization, time management, scheduling, and budget management. (Weighted 20%, Passing Score 70%).
  6. Oral Panel Interview - (Weighted 80%, Passing Score 70%).
  7. Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.  
  8. Selection/Offers!

Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.

The selection process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
