Qualifications and Attributes:
Education and Experience:

High school diploma and three years of recent paid work experience in one of the following areas: PC repair and troubleshooting, Helpdesk support, Systems Administration.  Associates Degree in a related field preferred.
Equivalency: May substitute a combination of equivalent education and experience.  The City assesses 1 year of fulltime experience as equivalent to one year of education. 
G.E.D. may be substituted for high school diploma.

 

Licenses and Certifications:

Microsoft (MCSE/MCP) Certification or CompTIA A+ Certification preferred.   Continued paid work experience with continuous use of knowledge acquired after having completed one of the above certifications may be substituted for having a current certification. 

NCIC Certification required within six months of hire/reclassification. Failure to obtain and maintain this certification will result in non-confirmation of appointment.

Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Working knowledge of PC operations and associated peripheral equipment; LANS, WANS, network management tools.

Working knowledge of deployment tools required; knowledge of Microsoft Deployment Services preferred.

Good knowledge of standard desktop applications including work processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, drafting, and communication software packages. 

Good knowledge of common IT department policies and procedures.

Good understanding of communications operations and associated peripheral equipment. Recognize equipment malfunctions and software errors and provide efficient solutions.

Troubleshoot and diagnose hardware, software and network problems and make modifications and repairs. 

Communicate effectively with co-workers and customers to share knowledge and solutions. 

Communicate effectively and perform effective troubleshooting of computer and communications problems via the telephone. 

Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with internal staff, citizens, contractors, and/or government agencies in such areas as supervising project work, responding to citizens' questions, and consulting with others.

Install, and provide technical support for network communications and security systems. 

Evaluate and provide recommendations for hardware and software acquisition. 

Prepare and maintain records and reports

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk to assigned post possibly outside, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, or talk, and hear, view camera and computer screens for prolonged periods of time, and is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like. 

May experience long periods of time on the telephone in a call center environment. 

Regular and timely attendance is required. 

 

PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING:

Candidates for this position are subject to a Pre-employment screening. Pre-employment screening includes but is not limited to: Local & State Criminal History Check; Federal Criminal History Check via submission of fingerprints; Drug screening.
