A Traffic Safety Inspector is an essential member of our team and we invite you to apply and help contribute to CNLV’S growing success!

The ideal candidate is an experienced professional in traffic control and construction safety, skilled in reviewing and inspecting work zones to ensure compliance with MUTCD and local regulations. They are detail-oriented, able to read and interpret traffic control plans, and capable of enforcing standards while working collaboratively with contractors, staff, and the public. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and required certifications (ATSSA, IMSA) support their commitment to maintaining safe, efficient, and compliant traffic operations across the City.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

  • Pay Considerations –The starting hourly pay for this position is $33.47. The selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
  • Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day (36 hour work week), Monday - Thursday, 6am to 3:30pm.

     

THE ROLE
Provides reviews and approvals for traffic control plans to assure compliance to all Federal, State and local regulations. Inspect work zones in the city right-of-way to ensure compliance with standard traffic control principles and practices; documents all activities in an automated log. Maintains division infrastructure inventory and provides data to others as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

  • High school diploma and a minimum of one (1) year of continuing post high school education in construction, with direct involvement with Traffic Control Setups, Engineering or related field in traffic control plan design, setups, approval and/or review and field inspection as it relates to
  • Four years of work experience in construction with direct involvement with Traffic Control Setups, Engineering or related field, such as traffic control plan design, setups, and approval and/or review and field inspections as it relates to Traffic Control Work Zones.   • Equivalency: May substitute a combination of equivalent education and experience. The city assesses 1 year of fulltime experience as equivalent to one year of education

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain an appropriate Nevada state driver’s license in the required time frame.
  • ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor Certification within one year of hire/reclassification and/or promotion.
  • IMSA Certification level I, II and signs and markings within one year of hire/reclassification and/or promotion.
  • IMSA Certification (Work Zone Safety) within one year of hire/reclassification.
  • Failure to obtain and maintain this certification will result in non-confirmation of appointment.

 

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.

  2. The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. 

  3. Personnel File Review - Pass/Fail, Minimum passing score is 75%- All current employees seeking internal positions will undergo a personnel file review. The personnel file review includes a current employment status check (probationary/qualifying periods), and a review of active discipline and most recent performance evaluation. Employees with a rating that does not meet minimum standards may be disqualified from this recruitment process.

  4. Oral Board Interview (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%)

  5. Pre-Employment Screening –Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. **IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete

  6. Selection/Offers

Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy. 
The selection process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
