QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:
Education and Experience 
•    High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one (1) year of continuing post high school education in construction, with direct involvement with Traffic Control Setups, Engineering or related field in traffic control plan design, setups, approval and/or review and field inspection as it relates to Traffic Control Work Zones. 

•    Four (4) years of work experience in construction with direct involvement with Traffic Control Setups, Engineering or related field, such as traffic control plan design, setups, approval and/or review and field inspections as it relates to Traffic Control Work Zones. 

•    Equivalency:  May substitute a combination of equivalent education and experience.  The city assesses one (1) year of fulltime experience as equivalent to one (1) year of education.   


Licenses and Certifications
•    Must possess a valid Nevada state driver’s license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame. 

Must obtain and maintain a valid: 

•    ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor Certification within one year of hire/reclassification and/or promotion. 

•    IMSA Certification level I, II and signs and markings within one year of hire/reclassification and/or promotion. 

•    IMSA Certification (Work Zone Safety) within one year of hire/reclassification. 

Failure to obtain and maintain these certifications will result in non-confirmation of appointment.  
 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


•    Principles and practices of traffic control as described in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices. 

•    Methods and practices of construction. 

•    Legal street signs and street markings. 

•    Principles and procedures of recordkeeping. 

•    English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. 

•    Construction contract plans and specifications.

•    Use of tact, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment within established guidelines. 

•    Researching, compiling and summarizing a variety of informational and statistical data and materials. 

•    Interpreting, applying, explaining and enforcing city, department and division policies and procedures. 

•    Organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines and following up assignments with minimal direction. 

•    Recognizing potential hazards and making proper field changes to keep work zones safe. 

•    Operating a variety of modern office equipment including computer equipment and programs. 

•    Understanding and following oral and written instruction. 

•    Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 

•    Ability to read blueprints and make field inspections, particuliary signs, markings and traffic signal drawings.

•    Standing/walking occasionally-frequently, standing in combination with walking on all types of terrain, depending on assignment. 

•    Sitting occasionally-frequently, in cab of vehicle throughout work shift. 
•    Lift/carry occasionally-frequently, 1-30lbs., materials, barricades.  Infrequently, up to 50lbs. 

•    Climbing occasional-frequently, in and out of vehicle, or on and off equipment throughout the work shift. 

•    Kneeling/crouching/crawling occasionally, depending on task assigned, while performing work at ground or street level. 

•    Constant use of both hands and arms in reaching, handling, grasping, fingering, gripping.   

•    Constant use of sight in operating vehicles and equipments.  Requires depth perception and visual acuity in near-, mid- and far-ranges. 

•    Constant use of speech and hearing, in safe operation of equipment, and in communicating with co-workers, assigned crew and supervisors. 

•    Maintaining mental capacity which allows the capability in making sound decisions.  Effective interaction and communication with others.
