A Utilities Field Maintenance Technician is an essential member of our team and we invite you to apply and help contribute to CNLV’S growing success!
This posting will create a non-probationary internal Teamster eligibility list and fill 1 vacancy for this classification. The current vacancy is in the Utilities department. The eligibility list will be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification, for up to one hundred eighty (180) days. Non-probationary Teamster team members successfully completing the selection process will be placed on the eligibility list.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

- Pay Considerations – The starting hourly pay for this position is $29.37. The selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
- Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day (36 hour work week), Monday through Thursday, 5:00am to 2:30am. May be required to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by department needs. May be required to work overtime, stand-by, and call back during off hours to respond to emergencies.
- Environment – Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to lift a minimum of 75* pounds unassisted. The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals, walking, and working on slippery and uneven surfaces. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. The worker frequently is in close quarters, narrow aisles, passageways, and crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small, enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia.
THE ROLE
Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled field duties of the maintenance and operation of the City’s water system, with primary responsibilities of fire hydrant maintenance, water meter replacements and repairs, operating and maintaining gate valves, and minor service line repairs within the City’s area of responsibility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- One (1) year of experience in utility systems maintenance, general construction, and/or maintenance, water conservation or any combined equivalent. Experience operating maintenance equipment is desirable.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Nevada state driver’s license, and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
- Must obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Water Distribution Operator Certificate Grade I or Wastewater Collection Operator certification - Grade I OIT within six (6) months of appointment through hire, transfer, promotion, or reclassification.
- Must obtain and maintain a Confined Space Certification within ninety (90) days of appointment through hire, transfer, promotion, or reclassification.
- Must obtain and maintain IMSA Work Zone Safety Certification and/or ATSSA Traffic Control Technician Certification within six (6) months of appointment through hire, transfer, promotion, or reclassification.
- Incumbents in positions that require possession of valid licensing/certification as a condition of employment must obtain and maintain such credentials within the established time periods, and throughout the course of employment. Failure to obtain or maintain required licenses or certifications in good standing may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
SELECTION PROCESS
- Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include (dates to be determined).
- Written Exam (Weighted 50%, Passing Score 70%)
- Oral Board Interview (Weighted 50%, Passing Score 70%)
- Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. **IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.
Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
