Qualifications and Attributes:
• Applicant must be able to work any shift and will be subject to stand by.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent and additional vocational or technical training in mechanical maintenance is preferred.
• Two years of progressively responsible experience performing construction and maintenance in the repair and maintenance of water and wastewater systems preferred. Experience using a backhoe in small or large water and wastewater systems construction/maintenance or utility construction or utility maintenance is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
• Must possess a valid Nevada State Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsements, within six months of the time of hire/reclassification.
• Must possess State of Nevada Water Distribution Operator Certificate, Grade I, within twelve months of the time of hire, promotion, transfer or reclassification.
• Completion of OSHA 10 Hour construction course no later than 15 days after starting in position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Proficiency operating a backhoe. Working with hand and power tools.
• Performing maintenance and repair tasks. Performing required water tests.
• Effective communications across disciplines/functions.
• Use of computers, tablets, computer software, and other technical instruments and equipment related to the work.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ABILITIES:
• Use of hand and power tools to perform maintenance activities.
• Perform basic maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Read and understand manuals, specifications, drawings, and blueprints.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Work as a member of a team, becoming increasingly knowledgeable and skillful in the field chosen.
• Perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Operate a motor vehicle.
• While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• May be required to wear personal protective equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, work in high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, or vibration.
• Working conditions are typically moderately quiet, but may be loud for limited durations while working with power tools, equipment, or machinery following all prescribed safety rules and regulations.
• Very heavy work: Exerting up to a 100 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Must be able to lift a minimum of 100 pounds unassisted.

• Practical Exam Required: Passing Score of 70% or Higher to proceed to the Oral Panel Interview
• Oral Interview: Weight 100% Passing Score 70%
