ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

  •  Pay Considerations –The starting hourly pay for this position is $28.08.  Starting salary is dependent on education, qualifications, and  experience. 

  • Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day, (36 hour work week) Wednesday through Saturday, 7:00am to 5:00pm.  May be required to work some overtime.

 

THE ROLE
Under general supervision, perform a variety of administrative and support functions to provide information and direction to victims of crimes; act as an advocate for their rights and protection; provide related clerical support to staff in the prosecution of criminal cases. Dependent upon position assigned to, may perform a variety of support functions to provide information and direction to victims of crimes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, social work, criminal justice or closely related field and two years professional experience in counseling, social work, psychology, criminal justice. 
  • Equivalency: Six years professional experience in counseling social work, psychology, or criminal justice may be substituted for the education and experience.

  • Prefer Spanish speaking experience in a work environment for those positions requiring bilingual translation (Spanish/English and vice versa)

Licenses and Certifications

  •  Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required timeframe.

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. Complete Online Application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
  2. The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include e-skills testing regarding verbal and written communication and an Oral Board Interview. (dates to be determined). All current employees seeking internal positions will undergo a personnel file review.  The personnel file review includes a current employment status check, and a review of active discipline and most recent performance evaluation.  Employees with a rating that does not meet minimum standards may be disqualified from this recruitment process.
  3. E-Skills Testing (Pass/Fail, dates to be determined) 
  4. Oral Board Interview – (Weighted 100% dates to be determined)
  5. Pre-Employment Screening –Background Screening/Investigation Includes an extensive background check, polygraph/CVSA examination, medical/drug screen exam. All top scoring candidates must pass the Background Investigation in order to move forward in the process. Applicants who proceed in the selection process will be required to complete an extensive police background. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 3 to 4 months to complete.  Among other items, the following are disqualifying behaviors: 
    • Any felony conviction.
    • Any domestic violence conviction.
    • Gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
    • Although there have been recent changes to laws regarding the legal possession and consumption of marijuana, the City of North Las Vegas will continue to adhere to its professional standards and guidelines as it relates to recent and continuous use of the drug.
  6. Selection/Offers – After completion of the background offer will be extended.

     

The selection process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
