A Water Systems Operator I is an essential member of our team and we invite you to apply and help contribute to CNLV’S growing success!
This posting will create a non-probationary internal Teamster eligibility list and fill one (1) vacancy for this classification. The current vacancy is in the Utilities department. The eligibility list will be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification, for up to one hundred eighty (180) days. Non-probationary Teamster team members successfully completing the selection process will be placed on the eligibility list.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

- Pay Considerations – The starting hourly pay for this position is $29.37. The selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
- Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day, Monday through Thursday, 6:00am to 4:00pm.
- Environment – While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, work in high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, or vibration.
THE ROLE
Monitors, regulates, and performs operational maintenance in potable water production, treatment, and storage and distribution equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent is required and additional vocational or technical training in mechanical maintenance is preferred, and;
- Two years of progressively responsible experience performing construction and maintenance on water distribution systems.
- Equivalent: Four years of progressively responsible experience performing construction and maintenance on water distribution systems.
Licenses and Certifications
- Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.
- Must possess and maintain a State of Nevada Water Distribution Operator Certificate Grade I at the time of application for hire, promotion, transfer, or reclassification.
SELECTION PROCESS
- Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
- Personnel File Review - Pass/Fail, Minimum passing score is 75% - All current employees seeking internal positions will undergo a personnel file review. The personnel file review includes a current employment status check (probationary/qualifying periods), and a review of active discipline and most recent performance evaluation. Employees with a rating that does not meet minimum standards may be disqualified from this recruitment process.
- Written Examination (Weighted 50%, Passing Score 70%)
- Oral Board Interview (Weighted 50%, Passing Score 70%)
- Pre-Employment Screening –Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history check via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening.
- Selection/Offers
Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
