A WRF Operator II is an essential member of our team and we invite you to apply and help contribute to CNLV’S growing success! 

This posting will create a non-probationary internal Teamster eligibility list and fill 1 vacancy for this classification. The current vacancy is in the Utilities department. The eligibility list will be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification, for up to one hundred eighty (180) days. Non-probationary Teamster team members successfully completing the selection process will be placed on the eligibility list.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION:

  • Pay Considerations –The starting hourly pay for this position is $31.58.  Any changes to the starting salary would be dependent on education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.  Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
  • Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day (36 hour work week), Saturday-Tuesday OR Tuesday-Friday. May be required to work various shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency call outs.
  • Environment – The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.  The worker frequently is in close quarters, narrow aisles, passageways, and crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small, enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia.

THE ROLE
WRF Operator II operates, inspects and performs preventative maintenance on a variety of primary, secondary and tertiary plant equipment related to continuous operation of a wastewater treatment plant. Individuals in this class may be appointed acting supervisor.

IDEAL CANDIDATE  
The ideal candidate for this position will have their Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II Certificate and will have recent experience working in a Wastewater Treatment Facility.  They will possess an ability to operate computers, software (preferably SCADA), and mechanical equipment.  They will have an understanding of the physical, biological, and chemical characteristics of Wasterwater Treatment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent AND two (2) years of full-time professional experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment facility. Equivalent combinations of experience, training, and/or education which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the major functions of the position may be considered.
  • All positions must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame and must possess and maintain an appropriate fork lift certificate within 6 months of the date of appointment.
  • Must possess a valid State of Nevada Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II Certificate at time of appointment. Reciprocity for equivalent certifications from other states may be considered.
 
SELECTION PROCESS
  1. Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
  2. Written Exam (Weighted 50%, Passing Score 70%)
  3. Oral Board Interview (Weighted 50%, Passing Score 70%)
  4. Pre-Employment Screening –Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. **IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete

Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
