MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
 
Education and Experience:
 
WRF Operator III: 

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent AND three (3) years of full-time experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment facility.  Equivalent combinations of experience, training, and/or education which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the major functions of the position may be considered. 

Licenses and Certifications: 

  • All positions must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame and must possess and maintain an appropriate fork lift certificate within 6 months of the date of appointment. 

WRF Operator III:

  • Must possess a valid State of Nevada Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's Grade III certificate at time of appointment. Reciprocity for equivalent certifications from other states may be considered. 

Knowledge of:
 
WRF Operator III:

  • Advanced operation and maintenance of pumps, motors, valves, and control systems relating to all primary secondary and tertiary treatment processes; full understanding of record keeping practices and principles; full understanding of tools and equipment used in the Operator’s trade. Methods and precautions in the storing and handling of all chemicals used at the facility. Detailed understanding and adherence to standard traffic laws and ordinances, safety regulations, principles, practices, material safety data sheets (MSDS) and personal protective equipment related to the work. Must have a full understanding of discharge permits requirements related to the facility. Proper procedures in investigating and documenting incidents in his assigned work area pertaining to the discharge permit. 

Skills:
 
WRF Operator III:

  • Following written instructions and insure work is completed in assigned area; do mathematical calculations to determine process efficiencies throughout the facility; communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Operating computerized and mechanical equipment to control plant processes; accurately reading/recording data from gauges/meters; reading and skilled in interpreting plant piping and distribution diagrams and schematics; performing routine laboratory control tests and operating plant equipment accordingly; Perform skilled maintenance work related to wastewater plant operations in a safe and efficient manner; understand safe operation and maintenance of hand and power tools related to the work; planning repair work with maintenance to determine procedures and priorities for equipment repairs; safely driving a variety of vehicles/heavy equipment; maintaining accurate records of work performed; contributing to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work. Operating a variety of wastewater treatment plant equipment, including automated control devices; recognizing unusual, inefficient or dangerous operating conditions and taking appropriate action; may require skill in collecting/preserving discharge samples and performing standard chemical and biological tests in the field; deal successfully with business representatives and the public; using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines. 

Alternate Staffing Requirements:

LENGTH OF TIME REQUIRED:

  • A WRF Operator II may advance to the WRF Operator III class upon obtaining a valid State of Nevada Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade III Certification, meeting minimum qualifications and demonstrating proficiency to perform all the major duties assigned to the WRF Operator III class. 

PERFORMANCE RATING:

 

The incumbents must receive an overall performance rating of “quality performer” or better on their most recent annual performance evaluation in order to advance to the higher class.
