QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:
Education and Experience 
•    Graduation from high school or equivalent AND one (1) year of full-time experience in construction, mechanical, or maintenance trades. (Equivalency: Equivalent combinations of experience, training, and/or education which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the major functions of the position may be considered.)


Licenses and Certifications 
•    All positions must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame and must possess and maintain an appropriate fork lift certificate within 6 months of the date of appointment.  
•    Must obtain a valid State of Nevada Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade I Certification within one (1) year from date of hire.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•    Basic operation and maintenance of pumps, motors, valves, control systems
•    Basic record keeping principles and practices
•    Basic tools and equipment used in the Operator’s trade
•    Basic operation of computers and computer software
•    Understanding and adherence to standard traffic laws and ordinances, safety regulations, principles, practices, material safety data sheets (MSDS) and equipment related to the work
•    Must understand the basic concepts, materials and terminology related to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Industry
•    Reading and understanding written instructions
•    Ability to do mathematical calculations
•    Ability to understand and learn chemistry, biology, and microbiology related to wastewater treatment
•    Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
•    Learn and perform semi-skilled maintenance work related to wastewater plant operations in a safe and efficient manner
•    Basic safe operation and maintenance of hand and power tools related to the work
•    Safely driving a variety of vehicles
•    Develop an awareness of potentially hazardous situations on the job and reporting potential safety hazards or violations
•    Maintain accurate records of work performed
•    Contribute to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities
•    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work
•    While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to exert 100 pounds of force
•    Ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, use feet and legs or hands and arms
•    Bend body downward and forward by bending legs and spine
•    Reach and extend hands in any direction
•    Work with hands and fingers by handling, seizing, holding, grasping or turning objects
•    Strength and mobility to work in a typical plant operations setting, including operating hand and power tools
•    Stamina to perform sustained physical labor, including standing, walking, climbing and working in confined or awkward spaces
•    Strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment
•    Vision to read printed material, computer screen and determine fine color differences
•    Hearing and speech to communicate in person, or over the radio or telephone

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions; non-weather related hot and cold temperatures; conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dust, mists, gases and poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system, eyes or the skin; bodily injury from explosions, radiation, falling from high, exposed places and moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools or machinery.  Work with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and substances found in the wastewater treatment process. 
 
Regular and timely attendance is required.  Work evening, night, weekend, holiday shifts and standby. Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations.
